Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu?

A long established holistic healthcare system, suitable for men, women and children of all ages, based on principles of acupuncture. Instead of needles, thumb pressure is used (through clothing), to help restore health and balance to the system. Where appropriate, physiotherapy techniques and massage are included to loosen areas of tension.

How can it help you?

Shiatsu can alleviate a wide range of conditions, for example:

Back, neck and shoulder problems
Headaches and migraines
Digestive and menstrual problems
Chronic pain
Shiatsu is also very effective if you are experiencing any of the following:

Stress
Low energy
Depression and anxiety
Many clients enjoy coming for regular Shiatsu treatments to maintain good health – an MOT for the body and mind!

What can you expect during a treatment?

A confidential case history is taken at the first appointment. The Shiatsu treatment is usually carried out on a futon (padded mat) at floor level (this can be adapted if necessary)

Your session will include an appropriate combination of the following techniques: thumb pressure applied to selected points throughout the body, using the meridian system of Traditional Chinese Medicine massage and dynamic stretches to loosen areas of tension. All treatment is carried out through clothing. To make the results of the treatment even more effective, you may be given recommendations relating to diet, exercise and lifestyle.

How long will the session last?

You should allow up to 1hr 30 mins for the first session and up to 1hr for follow-up sessions
(Shorter sessions can be given, by prior arrangement)

How can Shiatsu benefit you?

After a Shiatsu session you should feel:

Increased energy and flexibility
Alertness and clarity of mind
Ability to cope more calmly under stressful conditions
After a number of Shiatsu sessions you can usually expect to feel:

Relief of aches and pains
Control of symptoms
Why would you choose Shiatsu?
Because Shiatsu is:

Effective – it treats the cause of the problems, not just the symptoms
Comprehensive – Shiatsu is a stand-alone therapy which can treat a wide variety of clients, and health conditions (both physical and emotional)

Enjoyable! – Shiatsu is very relaxing to receive.
