Have you ever caught yourself daydreaming, staring into space, or out of the window, forgetting for a few moments where you are or what you are supposed to be doing?
Have you ever got into your car and driven a well-known regular route you take many times a week not remembered passing well-known landmarks on the route?
This is a form of trance very similar to the kind of trance that hypnosis induces. Forget the silly hypnosis shows on TV or the stage.
Hypnosis for therapy is a relaxing, comforting, pleasant experience which you can use purely for the purpose of de-stressing. Your conscious mind stops its irritating interference and your subconscious mind takes over. In this state of trance you will not reveal anything about yourself you do not wish to reveal and you will never do anything you do not want to do.
In trance, that is, under hypnosis, you let your subconscious mind take over.
Hypnosis is your ability to convince yourself that something is true. When you believe something, that belief is reflected in your thoughts, feelings and actions. So, once you use hypnosis to convince yourself of a new belief, then it becomes a habit to think and behave that way.
Think of hypnosis as a lever, a simple tool that can help people to remove blocks in their lives that were previously impossible to budge. For each individual, the blocks are different. The mechanism by which hypnosis removes these blocks is that while in trance you have the ability to perceive things differently. When you see or think of something differently, its effect on you is changed.
Do you have to do it on an ongoing basis? Some people have been able to make significant change after one session. For others, it takes a little while longer.
