After an interesting couple of months with various personal issues I have had a real opportunity to test the years of training in Awareness! There have been many difficult moments as I try to navigate my way through unfamiliar territory, but there have also been as many if not more remarkable and beautiful times too. As many of you know Jim had a heart attack early in June – completely out of the blue – from which he is making a good recovery after exceptionally good service from the NHS. My daughter had a beautiful baby boy called Cameron 4 days later and I arrived in Canada to be with them the following day. The joy and the sorrow are most definitely two sides of the same coin when one has to leave after just beginning to get to know this new little soul!
I returned with jet lag as not experienced before and then my dear Dad suffered a massive stroke and died on 11th July – and again the pain and joy were taken to a new level. However many of you have been so supportive of me and my family over these last few months – cards, messages, emails and many hugs have made a huge difference for which I want to say Thank You! Over and above I would also say that some of the tools that I have found most useful out of my toolkit have been Kum Nye, meditation, the podcasts from Sounds True – in particular Bruce Lipton which can be listened to at: I played a little of this at our Associates meeting this month to give everyone a flavour of the wisdom imparted in these free podcasts. A few people at the meeting weren’t sure how to download podcasts, so if this is the case, let me know and I will advise. http://www.soundstrue.com/podcast/bruce-h-lipton-phd-what-our-cells-can-teach-us/

It is also worth mentioning that the tools which I have learned during the Champion for Wellbeing programme have had a massive influence on my behaviour through these difficult times. As we all know, it is often the seemingly little things which can fire us up, taking us by surprise and causing us the most stress! I’m not for one minute say that I have it all sorted, but my physical guide when stress levels are high is the old back pain pattern and I am delighted to say that this bit seems to be okay!! You may have noticed that we have another Open programme beginning in September – I can only recommend it and if you know anyone who may benefit from being better equipped for life, please let them know.

    With all good wishes,
    Mary

Mary – you are indeed an inspiration because you are truly practising what you preach. I know you are someone who feels deeply, so this isn’t a glib response to grief, and nor are you choosing to ignore what you feel; instead you are choosing how you feel and what you are focussing on, and thank you so much for sharing this with us. Much love (and hugs), Caroline xx

The themes I had in mind for our Associates meeting in October were:
    • Self Management
    • The impact we have on others
    • Our Burning Desire

Over the past few months many of you are aware that I have been speaking to people who I regard as experts in their field to ask questions around the subject of ‘Are we on the right track?’ ‘Do people really want what we are offering?’ and of course how do I move TRC forward?

The commonality amongst those I have met with is – ‘don’t give up’ (not that I planned to) however I would like to try to explain to you what is in my head and what this means for us all.

Self Management as a term seems to have become a recent buzz word in hierarchal circles. The government sponsored Long Term Conditions Alliance Scotland has identified from its members that this must form a major part of future policies with regard to care, where people have a say in their own care plans. Also within the Christie Report commissioned by Scottish Government to review the Future Delivery of Public Services there is a big focus on Self Management, here is the conclusion:

‘We now call on the Scottish Government and local authorities together with all partners and stakeholders to initiate these reforms. The goal must be nothing less than a substantial transformation of our public services. The prize is a sustainable, person-centred system, achieving outcomes for every citizen and every community.’

The Impact we have on others and Fuzzy Files
The definition of a fuzzy file is somewhere to go when you feel a bit blue!
A conversation I had with a very successful business woman about 15 years ago, allowed me to understand that no matter how successful one is, there are still challenging times. Read on…
I had 3 conversations in less than 24hours last week, which indicated strongly that the impact of the work that we all do, is immense. I am sure you will all have individual stories of how people’s lives have changed after working with you. Of course we all recognize that is up the individual as to what they do with the tools offered, however we must take some credit for being the conduit. If you had made a different decision about your life path, these same people would have a different story to tell. In one way it can sound quite egotistical to ask people for their story regarding the impact you may have had on them but on the other hand it can be very encouraging when the phone isn’t ringing or when we perhaps question ourselves about our work, to have some stories in a fuzzy file to lift our spirits. I challenge you to ask a few clients and friends about the impact you have had on them, and ask them to do the same and see if we can help to spread some warm fuzzy feelings around our world!

Burning Desire – I can only ask the question – What makes your heart beat a bit faster?

I would love to hear your thoughts around these subjects.
