Denise retired in 200l after 10 years as Chief Executive of Perth & Kinross Association of Voluntary Services. Denise was instrumental in the redevelopment of Perth’s Gateway Centre, raising over one million pounds to create a one-stop venue for the voluntary sector. While at PKAVS, she was also responsible for setting up the first Princess Royal Trust for Carers Respite Care Centre in the U.K. Other services developed during this period were the Walled Garden Project, Independent Advocacy, Volunteer Development Agency and Shopmobility.
Before coming to Perth, Denise managed the Crossroads Care Scheme in Inverness.
For many years she has campaigned for the recognition of all carers but in latter years the plight of young carers and the development of appropriate services to meet their needs.
Although retired Denise continues to play a part in the voluntary sector. She is at present an advisor with the Citizens Advice Bureau in Perth and a Director of The High Hopes Foundation.
Denise became Chairman of the board of The Relaxation Company in July 2008 and brings a wealth of experience in the charitable sector to the organisation.
Denise is married to Brian and has two children and three grandchildren.
She received an MBE in the Queens New Year Honours List in 2008.
